Hi friends! You are probably wondering about the title of this post… “Life changing paint.” Nope, it's not a typo. I have actually discovered LIFE CHANGING paint and met one of the most amazing women I have ever encountered. And I am going to tell you all about it! #youarewelcome Before I go any further, let me stress that this is not a sponsored post! No one paid me to write this and I am not getting anything in exchange for it. I am writing about it because I think everyone needs to know about it!
As an Ace Hardware blogger, I had the honor of traveling to Memphis with the other amazing bloggers on the panel to meet Amy Howard and learn all about her Amy Howard At Home paint line. I had no idea when I boarded the plane that I was in for a life-changing experience. Amy has totally transformed how I will paint furniture and has inspired me to pursue furniture flipping as a side business. Life changing, I tell you. Read on for details.
The evening we arrived, we had dinner with Amy in her home. YOU GUYS! Doesn't that begin to give you an idea about what a phenomenal person Amy Howard is? She did not just host a beautiful evening at her home. She welcomed us in to her home. There is a difference, I promise.
Amy herself was every bit as warm, beautiful and inviting as you would guess from her brand. I adored her immediately! She is charming, genuine and oozes an absolute passion for her life and her business. Amy was even gracious enough to let us roam about and snap photos of her stunning home. As bloggers, we took advantage of her generosity and snapped photos {though they were all with our iPhones since we left our DLSRs at home–forgive the poor quality photos!}. Countless pieces of furniture in her home were rescued and restored by Amy using her paint line. This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience so you can easily find these awesome paints. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.
For example, this stunning room she created for her granddaughters to sleep in when they visit is full of rescued pieces. Those delicious, glossy pink lamps were painted with Amy Howard Lacquer Paint. Amazing, right?! And that lovely dresser they are sitting on? Yep, it was also painted using Amy Howard At Home paint!
And is this room, which has the most EPIC wall treatment I have ever seen (padded upholstered walls trimmed with piping–WHAT?!), that gorgeous bed was painted with Amy Howard At Home paint. Yep.
And because I am gushing about Amy's home, I have to share with you two other rooms I loved. Check out this gray bedroom. Y'all, the trim is painted the same color as the walls, but in a semi-gloss finish. #genius
And check out this sitting room. Amy has an incredible eye and I love how she mixes traditional and modern pieces. A woman after my own heart!
And can we take just a moment to talk about my love affair of this chandelier? There are no words for how much I love it. It's a piece of art!
After spending the evening in Amy's home, I could not wait to get my hands on her paint and learn her techniques. I didn't have to wait long, the next morning we were up and on the road to Amy's studio at 7:30 am. I cannot tell you how much fun I had meeting all of the other Ace Bloggers–Kim from Yellow Brick Home, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Brynne from The Gathered Home, Michelle from 4 Men 1 Lady, Erin from How to Nest for Less and Linda from It All Started With Paint. Alison at Henhouse wasn't able to join us, but I hope to meet her sometime soon! We also got to know Ace Hardware's Design Experts, Lou Manfredini, Katie Reynolds, Julie Richard and Nathan Fischer.
We arrived at Amy's studio and took a few minutes to take in all of the beauty that surrounded us. Even Amy's studio is full of beautiful vignettes featuring items that have been rescued and restored using Amy Howard At Home paint. Just take a look at some of the eye candy.
After we had a chance to look around, it was time to get to work learning how to use the amazing, LIFE CHANGING Amy Howard At Home paints. We were beyond blessed to learn from the expert herself, Amy Howard! Amy is a gifted teacher and is so engaging. She is a true joy to learn from!
Now, let me give you an idea of the stuff we learned. We worked on several different raw wood trim pieces. Below, you can see me working on our first piece of trim that we painted solid black using the Amy Howard One Step Paint. We then gilded the edges with gold leaf.
This is what it looked like after those two steps were completed. A tad gaudy, right? Well hold on to your hats… You won't believe how stunning this piece looks after we waxed it with the Light Antique Wax and the Dark Antique Wax and then added Dust of Ages.
Check it out, y'all. I PAINTED THIS–IN A MATTER OF MINUTES! I know, I know. I can't believe it either. The after photos were taken after I got back home and had access to my DLSR camera again, thank goodness! But trust me, it's not the camera that deserves the credit for this amazing result.
We also learned the grody cracked patina technique, using the One Step Paint and Cracked Patina product. Again, I painted this beauty…in minutes!
Fortunately for me, Ace Hardware sells the Amy Howard At Home paint line, so I have already purchased a ton of things to start my collection.
I could go ON AND ON about Amy and her products, but I will stop…for now! What I will say before I go is that this Wednesday I will be revealing my first piece of furniture that I have rescued and restored using the Amy Howard At Home paint. I will show you exactly how to do it for yourself at home. And rest assured you will start seeing lots more furniture painting around here and I promise to show you the technique I use every time :) See you back here Wednesday!
